Chapter 6

Chicago, Illinois

August 31, 2010

At the United Center’s Stadium Clubbowman_turcoEntering the United Center, Marty realized for the first time that he is not in Dallas and in Chicago. It hit him hard cause he was not going to be with Brenden Morrow for the first time in 10 years but he already knows that he will keep in contact with Brenden during the off season. He knows that he is going to be able to keep in contact with Brenden and Alyssa along with Ronnie and that Gabby would always keep in contact with Ronnie and Alyssa. That connection would never go away between Gabby and Marty along with Alyssa and Brenden. Changing locations wouldn’t and they all knew it. He grabbed a hold of Gabby’s hand and walked inside the press conference room as he saw the press and the general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, Stan Bowman stand up as he walked over.

“Welcome to Chicago, Marty Turco and who is the stunning beautiful woman besides you,” Stan replied as he shook Marty’s hand and then shook Gabby’s hand.

“This is my fiancée Gabrielle Jamison,” Marty replied as he looked at her with a big grin on his face.

“Congrats and your fiancé is one amazing goaltender. I know he will do great for us,” Stan answered. “I heard about your graphic and photography abilities from Brenden Morrow, your childhood best friend.”

“Yes, I am and Brenden always knows when to put a good word in for me,” Gabby replied as she knew that Brenden would say something about her.

“Well, I am hoping to hire you if you are comfortable working with us,” Stan replied.

“I don’t mind at all,” Gabby said.

Stan grinned as he knew this was the best day in Chicago Blackhawks history as he was not only adding a top goaltender to the club but also adding a graphic designer and photographer to the team. He walked over with Gabby and Marty as they sat in front of the press. “Today, we have announced that we have signed Marty Turco to a 4 year deal, worth $4 million and also added Gabrielle Jamison to the team as the graphic designer along with the photographer. I have decided that this team needed a veteran goaltender to help us defend the Stanley Cup in Chicago. Now off with the questions.”

One reporter stand up as Marty Turco nodded. “Marty, what made you decided to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks?”

“I knew that Chicago was a tough team to beat last year and that they have a proven to me that they are winners and want to repeat. They have the best two tandem in Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane along with Duncan Keith, Patrick Sharp and Brent Seabrook. This team was my first choice after Dallas decided to not resign me.”

You have been with the Dallas Stars for nearly 10 years. Will it be rough on you for the first few months?”

“I believe it will but then again it was time for me to move on to a different team.”

What do you bring to the Chicago Blackhawks?”

“I bring that competitive spirit and winning attitude that every team needs. I am ready to prove to the NHL that I can win the Stanley Cup. My goal is to help the team be the best out in the West.”

But you could have signed with a different team but choose the Chicago Blackhawks.”

“Yes, I do cause the opportunity to come to Chicago and play for a winner was the most important thing in my mind. I am 35 years old and have not prove to the NHL that I can win the big one. I am ready to prove to not only the Chicago Blackhawks but the NHL that I can win. This team looked like they had some fun last year and I want to be a part of it. I look forward to the opportunity to stand in my crease in the 'Madhouse on Madison' and get the chance to make some saves and get the people up on their feet, hopefully like on those highlights. "The chance to play for an Original Six team here in Chicago, to be a Blackhawk and to wear the same jersey that Tony wore is something that's irreplaceable. It's an opportunity that I take very dearly.” Marty stepped away from  the microphone as he got up and put the #30 jersey on as he smiled while talking pictures with Stan Bowman. He left as he walked out of the conference room with Gabby in tow as he saw Patrick Sharp with his wife Sarah standing besides Duncan Keith along with his fiancée Kelly Rae Kenyon and Brent Seabrook with his girlfriend Dayna Marcellus.

“Welcome to Chicago, Marty,” Patrick said as he and his wife Sarah both shook Marty and Gabby’s hand. Duncan and Brent along with Kelly and Dayna did the same thing.

“Thank you, guys,” Marty answered, Gabby nodding.

“You will like it here,” Patrick replied, winking.

“I know I will,” Marty answered as he knew that Chicago was the right choice for both him and Gabby but little did he know that his friendship with Brenden was going to be tested. He knew he had to be strong for himself and Gabby and he was going to be strong. He knew it.

Chapter 5, part 2

Marty waited for his agent to call him or text him back about the offers from both Chicago and Philadelphia. He wanted to know how long the deals were and how much they are. He is willing to take a pay cut so he can play hockey again and feel like he is welcomed. Will it happen or not?

"Marty, you will get that call, I promise you," Gabby replied, looking at him, knowing that call or text was on his mind.

"I know I will, Gabby. I just want it to come soon but I will always remember that patience is a virtue."

Gabby rubbed Marty's back, hoping that one of the teams will sign him to a contract. She wanted him to stop being so worried cause when he was worried, she was. She knew him to well now and loved him to a point where she wanted to be with him for the rest of her life.

Marty's iPhone buzzed with his agent, Kurt sending him a text about the deals: Flyers are giving Turco a 3 year deal, $3 million and Chicage are giving him a 4 year deal, worth $4 million. He shook his head as both teams were interested in long term deals. He would face the Stars 4 times if he signed with the Hawks and not face the Stars as much as if he signed with the Flyers. He had to make one of the toughest decisions in his life and it wasn't easy for him to do that. Which team sounded the great? Which team was going to help win a Stanley Cup? He knew that if he signed with the Hawks, he could retire after the contract was up and the same with the Flyers.  He kept looking at the deals and back at Gabby.

"Marty, what is going on?" Gabby asked.

"I got the deals with me, Gabby and they both are what I asked for. I am surprised they both came through with it," Marty answered.

"How big are they?"

"Chicago is 4 years and Philadelphia is 3 years. I just don’t know what team I want to play for, Gabby. I would be playing against my former team 5 times if I signed with Chicago but wouldn’t face them as much if I signed with Philadelphia. I love  the offers but this is a hard decision.”

“Marty, honey, you will make the right decision. Just go with your heart,” Gabby answered.

“I will, baby,” Marty whispered waiting for his agent to call him back. A few minutes later he felt his phone buzz as he looked down and saw his agent’s number on the screen as he hit answer on the phone.

“Marty, hi this is Kurt. Did you get my message about the offers from the two teams?” Kurt asked him.

“Yeah, I did, Kurt. I just don’t know which team to pick. Everyone is telling me to go with my heart. My heart says Chicago but it will be hard facing my former team so many times in a row.”

“Marty, Chicago wants you cause of your experience and they think you are the one who will send them to the next level in the playoffs and eventually to winning a Stanley Cup. I would take it. The contract is 4 years, 4 million and they told that the contract would fit under the salary cap if you sign with them. I would give them a chance for you to sign with them and show the NHL what you are worth.”

“Okay, Kurt. I have decided that the four year contract is worth it. I will sign with the Chicago Blackhawks.”

“Okay. I will let the GM know. Bye, Marty.”

“Bye.” Marty hit end on the phone and was excited that he was going to be playing hockey again. He was also nervous that he was going to be facing his former team, five times in a row. He knew this was his time to prove to the NHL that he was still willing to win a cup.

“Well, what happened, sweetie?” Gabby asked, seeing the smile on Marty’s face.

“I am playing for the defending cup champions, Chicago Blackhawks.”

“That is great, sweetie.”

“I know.”

Gino grinned as he got up and went over as he turned the TV on and saw the breaking news on TV.

Also the Stars and Brad Richards have agreed on a 4 year contract extent ion worth 4 million and agreed with James Neal on a 3 year, 3 million contract. The New Jersey Devils and forward Ilya Kovalchuk have agreed on a 10 year, 10 million contract. Those are some big names that deserved big contracts. Now we are hoping for some more big contract signings
**********************************************************

“Wow, the Stars signed three players today, Adam Burish, Brad Richards and James Neal. I guess Nieuwendyk was right about rebuilding his team,” Gabby replied.

“He wanted to make his team better. He is in the rebuilding stage right now,” Marty replied.

“I know he did,” Gabby said. “I wonder if he is going to get rid of Brenden or the other older veterans.”

“He won’t get rid of his veterans including Brenden. Brenden is the team’s heart and soul. He is their leader and captain. He deserves to be with that team for the rest of his career.”

“He sure does.”

Marty looked over at Gabby, knowing he had a better future with her and he knew that after signing with an NHL team that he wanted to get married to her. He had the engagement ring with him. “I have another announcement to make besides me signing with Chicago.” Popping it open with the nail of his thumb, he dropped onto one knee. "Gabrielle Anna Jamison, will you marry me?"

Gabby kneeled in front of him and took his free hand into hers. "Yes, I'll marry you," she whispered, and drew him into a fierce hug, before planting her lips over his.

Marty pulled away and removed the diamond encrusted ring from the soft cushion, slipping it onto the ring finger of my her left hand. "I love you, Gabby. I'll stick with you, through it all."

She smiled, wiping tears away from her face, her voice fluctuating. "Marty," she wept, softly, "I love you so much. Thank you for everything. Thank you for saving me."

Marty held onto her and said, "I'd do it all over again, Gabby," he said.

They kissed, and Marty's parents, Gino and Alma had a big grin on their face, knowing now that they have a beautiful daughter in law who loved their son.

"I think this is the start of something very beautiful," he continued, when the parted, staring down at their entwined fingers. "You can finally turn your back on the ugly past and start a new life with me."

She nodded, licking my bottom lip. "I'd love that, very much so."

Marty grinned at Gabby as he held onto her tightly, knowing now that he had a bright future with Gabby and in the NHL now. Little did he know that there more struggles ahead for the both of them.

Chapter 5, Part 1

A/N: I couldn’t fit this into one single chapter.

June 30, 2010--a day before the free agency starts

The next morning, Gabby got up as she saw her beau lying on the bed, sleeping with his forearm over his eyes before turning over and seeing Gabby as he woke up and smiled at her. "Good morning, baby."

"Good morning, sweetie," Marty whispered as he kissed her lightly on the lips.

"We better get up so we can join them for breakfast." Gabby got up before Marty took her hand as he leaned over and kissed Gabby on the lips. Gabby smiled as she got out of bed, grabbing her clothes out her suitcase along with her makeup bag as she went into the bathroom and shut the door. She put her stuff down on a table near the toilet as she looked at the mirror and smiled. Being with Marty made her smile and she knew that he was the one. Nothing was going to tear them apart.

Gabby got undressed as she adjusted the water and went under the shower enjoying the water shooting down her back. She washed up as she turned the water off and walked out of the shower as she grabbed a towel and rubbed her body as she got dressed and went out of the bathroom seeing Marty grabbing his clothes and toilery bag.

Marty looked up and saw his beautiful girlfriend, smiling at him. "You look beautiful baby."

Gabby blushed as she went over and hugged him before planting a kiss on his lips. "Thanks. Now go get dressed."

Marty winked as he walked into the bathroom with his stuff and got dressed. A few minutes later, Marty got dressed and went out of the bathroom seeing Gabby.

"You look so handsome, honey," Gabby whispered, kissing Marty on the lips.

Marty grinned as they walked out of their own little place and back into the house as they saw Gino and Alma, resting on the couch reading the paper and watching the early morning news before Gino switched to TSN. "Good morning, Mom, Dad."

"Good morning, Marty," Gino answered. "How did you two sleep last night?"

"We slept great, Dad," Marty replied as he looked at the news. "Anything good on tv."

"Not really but I decided to watch TSN to see if any news came up."

"Anything?"

"No huge signings today."

"I don't believe there will be many signings today since the free agency doesn't start until tomorrow. I hope not." Marty sat down on the lover seat as Gabby sat besides him and rubbed his back.

"Oh I thought today was the day of free agency," Gino replied, glancing over at his son.

"No, not until tomorrow but my agent is keeping me updated with texts if any team decides to give me a contract."

"Is your agent supposed to call you if he hears any good offers?" Gabby asked as she saw the worried look on Marty's face.

"Yeah, that's why I have my iPhone with me," Marty answered as he showed Gabby his iPhone before setting it on his lap. "I am wondering if anyone will give me a chance and let me show them what I can do. Gabby, I don't want to be out there in September with no team."

"Sweetie," Gabby whispered, scooting closer to him, "someone will sign you, baby. You are an amazing goalie and wherever you go, I go with you. So don't forget that."

"I won't, Gabby. I promise."

"I know you won't, baby," Gabby said.

Marty kept wondering if someone was going to call him and sign him on. Will any team sign him? Or is he going to be stuck as a free agent goalie until the season starts? He doesn't know. Tomorrow will be a day when he knows what team will sign him or not. He wants it to be postive than negative. He had another day to rest and to think about the free agency.

"Marty," Gino replied.

"Yeah, Dad, I am here."

"Okay."

A few minutes later, everyone got ready for their day to adventure around the city as Marty's mind was still stuck on the free agency tomorrow. Why did this have to happen to him? He wanted to stay in Dallas and not move to another city. The day has gone on as Marty's mind has not been with everyone else. Before he knew it, he was heading back to bed with Gabby as he was like a zombie today.

"Marty, baby," Gabby said.

"Yeah," Marty replied.

"You going to make it?"

"Yeah I will."

Gabby and Marty laid there in bed cuddled to one another waiting for sleep to take over their exhausted bodies, knowing they have a long day ahead of them, tomorrow. Marty wanting to know if he is signed with a team or not.

July 1, 2010--Day of Free agency

Next Morning, Marty got up as he checked his iPhone for any messages and saw nothing. He looked over and saw Gabby not there. He went into the living room as he saw Gabby sitting on the couch with his parents and walked over sitting down.

"Hey, Marty, there is no signing out," Gino said.

"I know. No call from my agent yet." Marty felt his iPhone buzz as he saw messages from his agent. He opened the chat room up and send a message. Hey, Kurt. What is going on?

Kurt Overhardt: Marty, you got two offers. One from San Jose and the other from Philly. I am not sure how big they are but I will let you know more okay.

Marty: Okay. Marty went out the chat room as he didn't believe. He got two offers from two teams: Philly and Chicago

"Marty," Gabby replied.

"Yeah."

"What happened?"

"I got an offer from two teams: Chicago and Philly."

"What?" Gino asked, overhearing the conversation. "Are you going to take it."

"Not yet. We need to know if the deals are stable or not."

"Oh. At least there are some teams who want you."

"I know." Marty couldn't believe it he had two teams who wanted him on their team. He didn't know what teams to pick. What team was it going to be?

Chapter 4

***Warning Adult themes***

June 30, 2010--Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

A month later, Marty and Gabby were heading to Marty’s hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, a small community town in Ontario. Marty was excited to see his parents and the rest of his parents as he wanted to forget about what has happened in the past few weeks. He was also happy to know that Gabby was here with him. His parents absolutely loved Gabby and knew that Marty and Gabby were going to be together forever. Gino and Alma Turco, Marty's parents, knew it and would love them to get married someday and have kids.

Marty and Gabby walked towards Marty's home after parking Marty’s 2009 Nissan Murano behind Gino's 2009 Ford Escape as they held hands and went up the stairs then went towards the door as Marty knocked on the door. They waited for either one to answer the door.

When Marty’s mother, Alma answered the door, it was apparent to Gabby where Marty’s dark hair and eyes came from. "Marty, Gabby. You are here. Come here, my baby boy." Alma opened her arms as Marty let Gabby's hand go and went into his mom's arms. "I missed my baby boy."

"I missed you, too," Marty replied, kissing his mom on the forehead before letting her go. He looked over at Gabby and smiled. "Mom, you remember Gabby, right."

"Yes, I do." Alma let her son go as she went over and hugged Gabby. "Hi, Gabby, sweetie, how are you?"

"I am doing good actually. How are you?"

"I am doing good. It is so good to see you. How is work going?"

"I actually quit so I can be with Marty and work for that team." Gabby looked Alma and saw her shocked look on her face. "It was my choice to quit and I didn't feel like I working in Dallas anymore."

"I am glad you made a choice for yourself and your life. You deserve to make the right choice." Alma went over and embraced Gabby in a hug as all three went inside the house and walked towards the living room as Gabby and Marty put their stuff down before following Alma into the kitchen. They saw Marty's dad, Gino in the kitchen cooking up some spaghetti along with French bread and a sweet red wine, that is Marty and Gabby's favorite since they both had it on their first date.

Gino turned around as he saw Gabby and Marty. "Gabby, Marty, it's great seeing the both of you. I hope you are hungry some delicious spaghetti and French bread along with that favorite sweet red wine that you two love so much."

"Great seeing you too, Dad. We are very hungry."

"That is great, Marty. We have that extra spare place that me and your brother, Nick. He came over with his wife, Andrea and they helped us extend the house. So you and Gabby can stay there if you want to."

"Thanks, Dad."

"You are welcome, son."

A few minutes later, Marty, Gabby, Gino and Alma sat at the table, eating the wonderful dinner that Gino cooked up.

"Wow, Mr. Turco, this is amazing," Gabby replied.

"Thank you, Gabby. You can call me Gino instead. I don't mind."

"Okay."

After everything was cleaned up, Gino showed Marty and Gaby their bedroom as they put their bags down.

"Well, I am going to let you guy settle down since you had a long flight. So see you two whenever you two get up."

"Okay, Dad. Night," Marty replied as he went over and hugged his dad.

"Night, Gino," Gabby replied as she went over and hugged him.

"Night you two." Gino smiled as he went out of the room to leave Marty and Gabby alone.

****

Gabby went over and locked the door as she went over towards Marty and jumped into his arms as they tumbled in hands in each others hair and kissing forcefully, blocking every other thought out of their minds. Gabby bit onto his bottom lip and gave little tug pulling him closer to her as she worked her hands inside of his jacket pushing it off of his shoulders and letting it fall to the floor right inside of her bedroom door which she pushed closed behind him and pushed him up against it. Marty was enjoying letting her take control but had gotten a few ideas of his own and without a warning her took control wrapping his arms around her tightly and pushing her towards the bed. Once he helped her take off her sweatpants as he helped her slipped them off as well as her white ankle socks, he trailed down teasing her legs until she could no longer stand it and grabbed him by the head pulling his face up to meet hers in a forceful passionate kiss. She pulled him down on top of her and pulled his t-shirt as well as his white wife beater up over his broad shoulders only pausing long enough to fully remove it before letting her hands slide up and down the smooth tight skin of his back and shoulders.

When she racked her fingers lightly up his sides it must have tickled because he laughed against her mouth, she loved the sound and the feel of the shiver it gave him on his skin and did it again. At that point he decided it was his turn and took control pulling the edges of her black t-shirt up, she sat up slightly so he could fully remove it leaving her in a simple white cotton bra and matching thong as he trailed kisses down over the tops of each of her breasts before going down further until he reached her belly button. He knew where she was ticklish, just when she wasn’t expecting it he blew a raspberry on her stomach, over her belly button. She laughed for a few minutes and then pulled him back up to kiss her again.

As the silly side of them faded away and things heated up again Gabby worked her hands in between them her fingers never fumbling as she undid the button and zipper on his jeans. She slid them down until he was able to kick them off leaving him in nothing but simple white boxer shorts. Then he gently slipped his fingers into the elastic waist band of her sweatpants and pulled it off of her easily. Her cotton thong was as simple and practical as her bra but looking at her turned him on so much that he had to have her. She must have felt the urge too because suddenly she was up wrapping her arms around his neck giving him the opportunity to unclasp her bra and let it fall off of her perfectly shaped breasts. She laid back on the pillows as he trailed kisses from one breast to the next. Taking his time suckling each mound bringing the nipples into perfect hard points, before he moved down further slipping her panties down and off of her trailing kisses all along the way.

Finally when she was completely naked in front of him he sat back and removed his own boxer shorts taking the moment to admire her beautiful body as she did the same with his. He gently slipped inside of her; she was wet and hot with anticipation. The whole experience was like nothing he’d ever felt before, besides the last time this had happened between them. He felt completed while he was inside of her and she felt the same way. The two of them rocked together going from slow and gentle to hot heavy and wild in mere minutes. Their pace quickened and slowed together as if reading each others’ minds and then finally when neither one of them could bare it any longer they came together rocking with the last bit of orgasm until they both felt completely and entirely spent.

Marty rolled off of her and to his side as she rolled to his side and for a moment they laid there seemingly unable to catch their breaths. After a minute Marty then lay next to her wrapping her in his arms and holding tight like he was afraid she’d disappear if he let go. She let him hold her loving the feeling of his arms around her. It was perfect, absolutely perfect.

“I love you.” she stated softly in his ear.

“I love you too baby.” He said back quietly holding her tighter.

Gabby and Marty laid there in bed cuddled to one another waiting for sleep to take over their exhausted bodies, knowing they have a long day ahead of them, tomorrow.

Chapter 3

Marty was nervous. He didn’t know why but he was. He doesn’t even know what he should say to Brenden. He keeps asking himself why be nervous, this is Brenden Morrow, his close friend and neighbor for nearly 9 years. He is the one who introduced Gabby to Marty. Why in the world is he so dang nervous? Breathe, Marty, breathe, Marty thought to himself. He was starting to feel like he was going to throw up or even worse hyperventilate.

“Hey, Marty, you okay?” Brenden asked.

“Yeah, sure. Okay, I guess not. I don’t know what to say or do. I am nervous,” Marty mumbled.

“Ah, Marty. You are not making any sense. What is going on?”

“Can we talk in private?”

“Yeah sure, come on.”  Brenden got up as Marty did too and they walked out of the locker room and went towards their cars. “Meet  me up at the Starbucks by our place.”

“Okay.”

Both men got into their cars respectively and drove off. They got to Starbucks as they parked their cars near one another and got out, locking their doors. They walked inside.

Brenden and Marty ordered their drinks and got them as they sat down at the table, near a window where no one could see them. Marty sipped on his ice tea as he looked out the window and tried to wonder if there was a beautiful city like Dallas was. He wonder if he’ll ever find that city that’ll accept him like Dallas did for the past year.

“Marty,” Brenden called out.

“Yeah, I am here.”

“No, you are not,” Brenden called him out. “You have been dazing in and out. What is going through your mind right now?”

“Everything is, Bren. I don’t know if I am ready to leave Dallas and move onto a different city.”

“Marty, when you the time is right, you will. I promise when you leave, we’ll still keep in contact. You can IM or call me and we can chat online or on the phone. Gabby can talk to Abby if she wants to.”

“Brenden, that’s what I wanted to ask you. I was hoping for us to keep contact.”

“Marty, you didn’t have to ask. You and me are best friends and doesn’t matter if we are on a different teams we will still be friends.”

“Thanks, Brenden.”

“You are welcome, Marty. You were there for me and Bryelle when we lost Sarah. Without you, I might have quit and ran away from Bryelle. I had to realize with your help, that Bryelle needed me and so did my team.”

“Brenden, you needed me and Gabby. Sarah’s death wasn’t your fault and she should have not died but she did cause some idiots killed her, not you. You still miss her don’t you?”

“Yeah, I do. My word, Marty. She was my life and I loved her. Abby is trying her hardest but I just don’t feel that I am ready to fall in love yet.”

“Abby loves you, Brenden but you do need to do what’s right for you and Bryelle. You need to look out for her first and make sure she has her daddy.”

“I know, Marty. It’s hard for me to realize what’s right but I will know what to do when the time is right.”

“Yes, you will, buddy.”

“I am going to miss these talks.”

“Me too but you can call me anytime you need to talk.”

“Thank you and I will. I guess this goodbye for now.”

“Yeah it is.”

“Bye, Bren. Going to miss you.”

“Going to miss you too, Mart.”

Both men got up as they hugged before letting go and heading to their respective cars. Marty drove back to his place and parked into his spot as he got up and walked to his door. He unlocked it, shut it and then locked it back up. He threw his wallet and keys on the counter and walked over to the couch as he sat down and propped his feet up on the ottoman, looking at the view of Dallas. He was memorized by the city lights and everything surrounding it. He was going to miss this place, badly.

*****

A few minutes later, Gabby came inside the condo by unlocking the door and then shut it by locking it again. She saw Marty sleeping on the couch with a pillow behind his head and a blanket, a green one that Gabby had given for Christmas, on. She walked over as she sat down on the couch as she took the pillow behind his neck and put it on her lap as Marty got up and then laid back down on the couch as he put his head on Gabby’s lap. She took the blanket and put it on top of Marty’s body. “Sleep, baby.”

“When did you get here?” Marty asked, sleepily.

“I just got here. You tired.”

“Yeah, very. It has been a long day for me….emotional as well.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean memories just kept flooding through my mind. When we first met to Brenden telling us about Sarah’s death to my argument with Nieuwendyk to you telling me you are resigning. Just every memory came up, Gabby and I don’t know why they are. I don’t want to leave. I really don’t.”

“Mart, you don’t want to leave but you have to prove to everyone that you can play and be the best. You can keep those memories and remember your times here cause you deserve to.”

“Gabby, you are amazing and I will do that. You are going to be with me every step of the way. That is why I am glad that we are going to be together.”

“Me, too, Marty.”

“I love you so much, baby.”

“I love you too.” Gabby leaned down and shared a kiss with Marty.

Gabby and Marty rested on the couch thinking about the future with one another and their future with a new city, team and life. They had time to think as they wanted to spend the summer with their families and wait for offers from Marty’s agent.

Chapter 2

Marty still had no clue where he might be heading for the next year. Maybe it was a city like Washington, Philadelphia, San Jose or even Chicago. But all he knows is that he will not be in Dallas, next year. The only city he has known his entire life. He really wants to stay in Dallas, not move to another city. He hears a door open as he turned around and saw Gabby, who smiled at him before seeing Joe Nieuwendyk, the general manager of the Dallas Stars, who nodded at Turco before going over to where Marc Crawford, the current head coach of the Dallas Stars is. The conversation between Joe and Marty was extremely bitter and very harsh on Nieuwendyk’s part. Marty couldn’t believe the way that Joe talked to him.

April 14, 2o10--Dallas, Texas

Marty looked around the locker room, before seeing Joe Nieuwendyk, walk into the locker room, coming from a conference.  Kari Lehtonen, right behind him in a Stars jersey. He knew it! He absolutely fucking knew it!

Nieuwendyk walked to the front of the room, where the rest of the team was gathered to address them about the dealings that went on in his conference with Kari. “Today was an important day as we are trying to rebuild this franchise and it started with the signing Kari Lehtonen to a new 3 year contract extension. Our team will be different next year as they will be young and fast. My reason for the team to be here,is to introduce  Kari as  our new starting  goalie. I am currently in contract discussions with Marty."

Marty looked at Joe before saying  "Fine but please let me call my agent"

"Fine by me," Joe replied as he went into his office.

Marty got his iPhone out,  and went through his contacts until he found his agent.

"Hi, this is  Kurt Overhardt."

"Hi, Kurt. This is Marty Turco."

"Hi, Marty. Is there something I can help you with?"

"Yeah, Joe, the gm of the Stars, wants to talk to us about a new contract."

"Sure. I can be over there in a second."

"All right. Thank you."

"You are welcome." Kurt ended the phone call as he got up as he took his car keys and headed to American Airlines Center.

Marty turned his iPhone off as he waited for his agent with Brenden sitting besides him.

A few minutes Kurt went inside the locker and saw Marty sitting with Brenden. He walked over and asked "What is going on?"

"Joe wants to talk about something...i guess either a new contract or not signing me. I don't really know."

"Oh okay. Well I guess we better get a move on then huh."

"I guess so." Marty got up as his buddy, Brenden patted him on the shoulder. Marty walked with his agent towards Joe's office.
Kurt knocked on the door.  Joe opened the door and let them in. As  they sat down, Joe walked to his desk and sat down. Kurt said  "So Joe, Marty said you wanted to talk about a new contract or something. So what it is it?"

"This is the hardest decision that I've had to make as the Stars Gm, but  I want to thank Marty for the best 10 years of his life as a Dallas Star . I hope that he finds a great team that will love him like we have for the past ten seasons. You have been  great with the fans and your team mates, and we will sure miss you"

"Thank you, Mr. Nieuwendyk. I am sure that Marty will find another team for next year. ." Kurt got up and walked out of the door with Marty.

Marty walked back over to his locker and sat down as he brushed a hand through his short black hair as he started crying hard.

Kurt patted Turco on the back. "I will  start putting your name out there, Marty. We will find a team for you to play for next year."

Marty nodded as Kurt left the building and walked out the door and went to his car.

Brenden looked at his best friend before sitting near him. “What happened in there, Mart?”

"Joe just informed me that he is not resigning me, Brenden. I am done with the team," Marty replied, tearfully.

“Mart, I am sorry. He is an ass for saying that. You sign with another team and show Joe that he made a mistake in letting you go.”

“Bren, are you sure?” Marty was in total shock that Morrow would say that. He would have wanted his best friend to say something like ‘you should stay, Marty,’  and that ‘Joe should resign you.’ But Brenden didn’t and Marty was shocked by it. But Maybe Brenden had a point. Maybe moving to another city and team would help Marty out.

“Marty,” Brenden replied, tapping his best friend on the shoulder.

“Yeah, yeah. I am here. What’s up?” Marty asked.

“The team is ready to get the team photo ready. They need all of us to head to center ice…one with suits and one with uniform.”

“Oh, okay. I’ll be there in a one second Just give me a second to compose myself. Oh is Gabby out there?”

“Yeah, Gabby is out there. Didn’t she tell you that she is resigning cause of you not coming back.  Mart, she really does love you.”

“I know that she resigned, Bren. She told me that about a week ago.”

“Oh okay. It’s hard not seeing either you or Gabby out there. Me and Abigail are going to miss you. I guess I better go and I’ll see you out there.”

“See you out there.”

May 23, 2010--Marty’s Condo in Downtown Dallas, Texas

Gabrielle knocked on Marty’s door as she waited or Marty to answer the door. She heard the door open as she saw a tired, red eyed Marty at the door. “Hi, baby.”

“Hi,” Marty whispered, his voiced cracking up as tears were about to stream from his eyes. “Come on in.” Marry walked away as he sat down on the couch as Gaby closed the door, locking it and walked over to the couch and sat down, too.

“You okay? What’s wrong, sweetie?” Gabby asked, rubbing Marty’s back.

“No, not really. Nieuwendyk  went inside the locker room after signing Kari Lehtonen to a 3 year deal. Then he asks me to come inside his office and told me the reason why I won’t be resigned by the team. He told me that he wants a new change and I am not in the plans anymore. My word, Gabby, I have been with that team for nearly 10 fucking years and they are letting me go. I don’t know where to go.”

“Oh, Marty. I am so sorry but some team will give you a chance. You are an amazing goalie and great boyfriend.”

“Thanks, Gabby.”

“You are welcome, Marty.”

“Okay, Gabby. You have something on your mind. What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

“Yeah, something did. I resigned from my position as the team photographer cause I could not handle the fact that the one person I love and care about won’t be here in Dallas with me. I need to be with you, Marty. I want you in my life, forever.”

“Gabby, you love what you do.”

“Yes I do.”

“Then, please don’t leave this city or team. They need you.”

“No, Marty. I won’t leave you. I refused to not loose you. I will not.”

Marty got up and walked over to the balcony of his condo, looking at downtown Dallas, memorizing the city so he can keep it in the back of his mind.

Gabby looked at her beau, wondering what is going through his mind. She wanted to know as she got up and walked over towards Marty as she wrapped her arms around his chest. “Marty, what is going on? Please, let me in.”

“Gabby, I don’t want you to live in a life of regret and despair cause of me,” Marty whispered as he turned around and wrapped his arms around her before placing a kiss on Gabby’s forehead.

“Marty, I am  not making a decision of regret. I am making this choice cause I wanna be with you and move in a new direction.”

“But are you doing this for yourself, not cause of me?”

“No, I am doing it for me. I am doing it cause I want to.”

“Gabby, I really do love you.”

“I do, too, Marty.” Gabby kissed Marty on the lips before resting against his chest. “Well, Marty, I have to get home. I will talk to you later after the team photo.” Gabby let Marty go as she gave him a peck on the cheek before heading to the door.

“Okay,” Marty answered. He saw Gabby leave as she shut the door. He walked over and locked the door. He kept wondering if Gabby was really going to resign or not. But the look on her face told Marty everything he needed to know. She was going to stick with him.

Marty looked around as the locker room as it was empty and he already knew that the team was out probably waiting for him. He walked out of the locker room as he walked towards the arena for the last time. He walked out and saw the team looking at him.

“There you are!” Mike Modano exclaimed. “We have been waiting for you.”

“I am sorry. Thoughts have been running through my head lately,” Marty replied as he walked over and sat by Morrow.

“Hey, you wanna talk after the team photos are done,” Morrow asked.

“Yeah sure.”

A few hours  later after the photo shoots were done, Marty packed up the rest of his stuff as he glanced over and saw Gabby giving Nieuwendyk her keys and resigned papers as Nieuwendyk tried to stop her. She glared at him before he moved aside as she walked away and went over towards where Marty was. “Marty, I’ll see you at your place after you talk to Brenden.”

“Okay.” Marty nodded as he placed a quick kiss on Gabby’s lips before she left and went towards her car, a 2010 Black Ford Focus  as she put her stuff in the passenger seat as she drove back to her place.

Marty smiled before he went back to what he was doing. He was glad to know that wherever he was going, Gabby was by his side. Now all he needs to do is talk to Brenden and see how they’ll keep in contact. He knows for one thing: he will not stop keeping contact with Brenden. He knows for  sure that Gabby wants to keep in contact with him and so does he. He also knows that Gabby wants to keep contact with Bryelle and Abigail too.

Chapter 1

May 30, 2010--Dallas, Texas

Marty Turco grew up with the Dallas Stars since he was rookie in 2000 and never knew that he had to look for a new team for the 2010-2011 season. He wanted to stay with the Dallas Stars and stay with the girl that he loved, Gabrielle Jamison. But he knew that Joe Nieuwendyk of the Dallas Stars wanted to go in a different direction and that Marty wasn’t in the plan.  He knew it right away since the Stars traded for goalie Kari Lehtonen that he wasn’t going to be in the Stars’ future plan. He had to find another team for next year and prove to the NHL that he is proven goalie who can win the Stanley Cup.

But how was he going to survive without Gabrielle Jamison, his best friend and the one who helped him through the rough years of his NHL career.  He wanted to know if Gabrielle was willing to move with him and start over in a different city and team. He was going to ask her today after he went to American Airlines Center to meet with his teammates and get his stuff  packed up. He wanted to say goodbye to his best friend and teammate for 10 years, Brenden Morrow. He wanted him to know that they will keep contact with one another. Their close friendship with one another meant a lot to Turco as they kept each other company during the rough times….playoff exits and injuries. Turco was Morrow’s best man at Morrow’s wedding to Sarah and he is the godfather of Brenden’s daughter, Bryelle. You see…Bryelle is the daughter of Brenden and his late wife, Sarah. Marty can remember the time when Brenden had called him and told him what had happened to Sarah. That memory had stick with Marty ever since.

September 2006--Dallas, Texas

Marty had been resting at home, watching TV with Gabrielle. He smiled as he looked down at the one woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He was glad that Brenden had introduced her to him and he was glad that Gabby was great friends with Sarah, too.  Those two girls had seem to have instant chemistry with one another. He was happy to know that she had a woman to talk to if she ever had any problems.

“Marty, babe? The phone is ringing.” Gabrielle nudged Marty out of his train of thoughts.

“Thanks, sweetie,” Marty replied as he kissed his girlfriend before getting his iPhone and saw Brenden’s number on the screen. What was going on that Morrow was calling at 10 o’clock at night? “Hi, Brenden. How are ya?”

“Marty,” Brenden whispered, tearfully. He couldn’t believe it. He was at Baylor Medical Center, holding onto Bryelle as she was sleeping in his arms. “Something bad happened tonight, Marty.”
“Oh my word, Brenden, what happened? Marty asked, looking at Gabrielle as she turned off the TV and looked at Marty.

“Marty, my wife died. Bryelle was at Philippe Boucher’s home cause of a sleepover party that Vanessa, Philippe’s daughter, had.”

“Brenden, what do you mean that Sarah’s dead? We just saw her about a few hours ago. How did this happen?”

Gabby just glanced at Marty and couldn’t believe what Marty had just said. Her best friend was gone. She couldn’t believe and from what she could tell neither did Marty.

“She’s gone, Marty. I was in the house and these two guys just knocked on the door. I thought it was Boucher telling us that Bryella got hurt or was sick.  I opened the door and the guy pointed a gun at me as I walked over and sat near my wife. He and this other guy I can’t remember right now came over and told us to do whatever they wanted us to do. He took a hold of Sarah and I got up but the other guy got a hold of me. He just killed her by repeatedly beating her and then used a gun as he hit her heart. After they killed her, I panicked and one of the guys  grabbed me as he forced me against the wall, grabbing onto my arms before I could do anything. This guy who wasn’t holding me, pulled my pants down as he did the same thing and forced himself inside me. He kept thrusting in and out of me.  I said no five times and they wouldn’t stop as Adrienne’s dad started beating my back and hip up badly. I am the hospital and got checked out. I did an STD test and got some medication for my body aches. A guy came into the house and just shot her for no reason. Some random guy comes into my house and kills her.”

“My word, Brenden. We can be over there if you want us too. Is Bryelle with you?”

“Okay. Bye, Marty. Yeah Bouch and his wife came to the hospital, hugged me and gave me Bryelle. She’s sleeping my arms.  I am at a hospital bed.”

“Bye, Brenden.” Marty hit end on his iPhone and saw Gabrielle.

“Marty, what happened?” Gabby asked.

“Gabby, Sarah’s gone. She was killed with a gun as a guy came inside and just shot her for no reason. Brenden witnessed her death.”

“OMG! She’s gone. She can’t be. My best friend can’t be dead,” Gabby screamed before going into Marty’s arms, crying hysterically. She couldn’t believe the one person who died, was gone from some dude killing her. Poor Brenden he had to deal with his wife’s death. They needed to be with him for this rough time.

“Yeah, she’s gone, Gabby,” Marty whispered as he rubbed Gabby’s back, wondering what to do.

Marty shook his head as he remember that flashback and stayed at the hospital with Brenden as Gabby took Bryelle back to her apartment that was near Marty’s apartment. It had been 4 years since Sarah’s death but it took a toll on both Marty and Gabby along with Brenden. Brenden is now married to Abigail and Bryelle is doing great. But it is such a sad story that Bryelle won’t know her real mother and all the wonderful things that Sarah did for Bryelle before she died.

He walked into the Stars locker room, trying to keep his head up high and not wanting to cry. He didn’t want Nieuwendyk to know he got the best of him or any of his teammates to see him in such a vulnerable spot. He knew how his team wanted to move on and get a better team:  fast, young team to win a Stanley Cup. He will not cry or regret anything he has done for this team. He knows he did his best and now he is ready to move on and prove to the NHL that he can still win a Stanley Cup.

He went inside as he saw the team look up at him and went to his locker with boxes. He was ready to pack his stuff and get moving on. He looked around before seeing Morrow. Morrow looked over and smiled at him before going back to what he was doing. He needed to talk to Morrow once the meeting and the ever last team picture were done. He needed to talk to his buddy on how to keep contact and to see if they wanted to do anything before a new season started since they are going to be in two different cities.

Marty started packing everything and memories just popped up everywhere. His first year when Brenden introduced himself and then Gabrielle, someone he grew fond of and someone that shared a love of hockey. He can remember that day as if it where still here.

September 2000--Dallas Stars training camp

Marty entered the locker room, uncertain of what kinda of future holds for him on this team as he waited for someone to show where he is supposed to go. He looks around before seeing a young man with auburn colored hair and steel-grey eyes walking over towards where Turco was standing. A young woman with light curly brown hair and dark brown eyes walking very closely to the young man. “Hi. You must be Marty Turco. I am Brenden Morrow and this young woman standing besides me is Gabrielle Jamison.”

“Nice to meet you, Brenden, Gabrielle.”

“Marty, you can call me Gabby. I don’t mind cause everyone else does.”

“Sure, thing. I don’t mind.” Marty looked at Gabby and felt an instant connection between him and Gabby. He didn’t know at first if she was a photographer, writer, singer or all three of them. She had a mystery about her that Marty wanted to know. He didn’t know much about her but after meeting her, he wanted to.

“Well, I better show you where your locker is.”

“Okay.” Marty nodded.

“Bren, I am going to go see what Hitchcock needs.”

“Okay, Gabby.”

Gabby nodded at Marty as he did the same thing. She walked over towards where Ken Hitchcock, Doug Jarvis and Rick Wilson were as the coaches had a meeting about the training camp. She wonder about the new young back up and why all the sudden she had the instant connection with a guy she barely knew.

Marty walked over to the locker and looked back at Gabby. He wanted to know her badly, inside and out.

“Marty!” Brenden yelled, waving his hand back and forth trying to get the goalie’s attention.

“Sorry, I am here.” Marty mumbled as he looked at Brenden before glancing quickly at Gabby.

“Marty, my word. You have a crush on my best friend since childhood and she is the new graphic design artist and photographer. She also does modeling and singing in her spare time. She’s looking for someone to treat her right.”

“Yeah, I do. I am sorry but I haven’t felt this way in a long way. I wanna get to know her inside and out. Gabby seems to be someone I can get along with.”

“Gabby is one amazing girl once you get to know her.” Brenden knew right away that both Gabby and Marty had chemistry. He wouldn’t be surprised if they both started dating.”

Marty smiled as he looked at his locker, remembering that special day of meeting Brenden as their close friendship started to developed and of course meeting Gabby. He was wondering if he can keep these memories with him. He needs to know if these memories will last forever or disappear into thin air. He kept packing up his stuff and then pulled his name off as he tossed it in the trash can.

Before he knew it, the coaches let everyone know that the 2009-2010 team picture will be ready and the realization came to Marty that he’ll never wear a Dallas Stars uniform again. He has not even sold his condo yet. He needs to do that as soon as this gets done. Maybe after he talks to Morrow. He needs to talk to Morrow before he does anything else.
